Recently i have had an amazing opportunity to co-lead Surfacing team with my collegue Sebastian Deredas in the production of a series of cinematics for Warhammer 40 000: Dawn of War IV game. The experience was great for improving, developing leadership and team management skills, guiding artists in order to achieve best possible results, with available tools and while meeting production realities and restrictions as well. Congrats to the whole team, I am really pround of what was achieved!
During the production I have also found time to do some assets myself, most notably the Cyrus character. Dude has a lots of various closeups during the cinematic, so it was pretty challenging, especially while juggling the large production management (few dozens of assets for all the films O.o).
Really loved this one, as WH:40k is one of my favourite IPs, was great to add my brick to the franchise, to visualise the space marine character, to tackle materiials from this war driven distopian world. As usual in scifi, its not easy doing realistic surfacing for imaginary materials, that dont really have real life photo references, there is always a lot of concepting, especially for details, layering of materials etc. I took a lot of inspiration from absolute killer work of people at Blur Studios for their Secret Level WH:40k episode.
As always, cinematics are the joint work of dozens of people and the final result credits goes to all of them. Congrats, and hope you like it!
